1st Fordingbridge Cub Pack Annual Report June 2024
We now have 24 cubs in the section.
19 of these attended the District camp in May and had a wonderful time trying out many new activities and learning new skills. No-one complained about the rather tightly packed tents (fundraising needed!) or the food, or the rain etc, They all have a wonderful ‘can-do’ attitude.During the year several Cubs achieved their Chief Scout Silver Award before moving on to Scouts. Several more are on target to achieve this in the next few months.
There was a great turnout for the Remembrance Day parade and service in November. Our leadership team has come up with some wonderful activities. These can take a lot of planning and organisation!
We made scarecrows and donated one to the Community Garden where we did some vegetable planting. We’ve been swimming, hiking (day and night), had a visit from vet nurses plus animals and seen and heard bats at Blashford. We’ve cooked and tasted world foods, tried backwoods cooking and made terrariums. Cubs joined in a New Year activity challenge for which they all received a certificate for their achievement! We’ve built dens on the forest and played pioneering games. We’ve visited the Green Gram and been challenged to reduce our use of plastics, (we also sampled some snacks!) We’ve found out about endangered species, have identified trees and discovered what lives in the forest streams (this during pouring rain). Cubs have kayaked in the freezing cold and jumped in a lake.
Our last weeks of term will include archery, athletics and a campfire evening and we will manage a return visit to Blunts Barn for a ‘slippy slide’.
Our young people have really impressed us with all they have achieved and how they have matured. They are a pleasure to spend time with.
